What is stored

Echo stores the account details you provide, including your email, display name, optional profile photo, and a password hash. It also stores your journals, recordings, photographs, videos, text, memory dates, and sharing preferences.

Your browser keeps a local library copy for editing and faster access. Uploaded records are stored using Cloudflare D1 and media using Cloudflare R2. A local copy and a completed cloud backup are different things: check the app’s backup status before clearing browser data.

Session cookies keep you signed in. Browser storage also holds app preferences and downloaded transcription files if you choose the offline option. Infrastructure providers may process connection details, such as IP addresses and error logs, to deliver and protect the service.

Private until you choose to share

Accounts have separate libraries. Sharing gives the people you invite access to the selected bookshelf, journal, or memory, according to the permission you choose.

An invitation link can reveal its preview: the title, description, cover image, and inviter’s name may be visible to someone with the link and to the messaging service generating a link preview. Avoid sensitive details in those fields when sharing.

You can close an invitation to new people or remove someone’s access. Removing access cannot take back files they already downloaded or screenshots they made. Only upload recordings and images you have permission to use, and take extra care with children’s information.

Turning a recording into words

The cloud transcription option processes recordings with Whisper through Cloudflare Workers AI. The optional offline Parakeet mode downloads a model to the device and transcribes there. Using offline transcription does not disable cloud backup for the rest of your library.

Transcripts can contain mistakes. Review names and important details before sharing. These features do not mean the service is end-to-end encrypted; authorized server-side processing is part of cloud storage and transcription.

Your choices

  • Edit your profile and password from Profile.
  • Manage invitation links and individual access from Share.
  • Download recordings and transcripts, or export a library backup from Backup & privacy.
  • Find deleted audio in Recently deleted during its five-day recovery window.
  • Read the account-deletion information before requesting removal.

Removing the Home Screen icon or clearing the browser does not delete your cloud account. Account-wide deletion, backup retention, operator identity, and regional rights procedures must be finalized before this draft becomes a public policy.
